Use an AI scribe with patient consent aligned to CMQ guidance
A practical workflow for Quebec clinicians to explain an AI scribe, obtain explicit consent, document it in the chart, renew it when needed, and keep final note review under physician responsibility.
AI scribe consent checklist for Quebec clinicians
The CMQ requires explicit patient consent before using an AI scribe. Use this practical workflow to explain the tool, document consent, know when to renew it, and keep note quality under physician responsibility.
Explain before capture
Tell the patient why the scribe is used, what it records or captures, and how it helps documentation during the visit.
Confirm free, informed consent
Discuss confidentiality and security risks, plus how the vendor may use data, including transmission, training, recording, and server location.
Remind, refuse, renew
At later visits, remind the patient the scribe is active. Do not use it if they refuse or withdraw. Renew consent for materially more sensitive topics or major vendor/technology changes. Document the initial consent and any renewed consent in the patient chart.
Review and protect
Verify applicable Santé Québec certification requirements and privacy/cybersecurity obligations for your practice setting. FrontRx does not claim certification here. The physician remains responsible for correcting and signing the note.
